Spar Women’s Challenge
6 May 2019
The main focus of the Spar Women’s Challenge 2019 was the Spar Stop Plastic Campaign. Spar is also proud supporters of Sanitary Sistas and encouraged participants to bring sanitary products to the registration tent.
Hume International won a Spar cash prize for being the company with the most entries for the Spar Women’s Challenge.

Corporate Triathlon
4 April 2019
The Corporate Triathlon was held on the 4th of April 2019. Twenty-seven Hume International employees participated in the event.

Love Box Outreach
November 2018
Hume International gathered 114 Santa boxes for Dias farm school. Staff members that were part of this initiative had the opportunity to personally hand out the boxes to the children.

Reach for A Dream Slipper Day
Together we sold 43 wristbands and raised a total of R 430 towards the campaign.

Blood Drive
6 June 2019
On the 6th of June, Hume International held a blood drive for the first time. A total of 17 units of blood were successfully donated.

18 July 2019
Hume International supported Save-A-Pet’s initiative to commemorate Mandela Day.

We were able to collect pellets, biscuits and 100 tins of pet food.

Fred Hume

Managing Director

Tertiary Qualifications:
Bachelor of Commerce Cum Laude – NMMU
Bachelor of Commerce with Honours in Economics and International Trade – UCT.

Work Experience:
Specialist international animal protein trader with more than ten years’ direct experience.
Extensive experience in animal protein import, export, distribution, wholesale, manufacturing and retail.

Skills he brings to Hume International are:

  • Proven entrepreneurial abilities and insights
  • Procurement and sales
  • Extensive relationships with local and international suppliers, service providers and clients
  • Extensive knowledge of Statutory requirements relating to import of animal protein

Samantha Hume


Samantha qualified as an attorney in 2007 in South Africa as well as a Conveyancer and Notary. She began her career as a professional assistant at VanderSpuy (Cape Town) before returning to Port Elizabeth.

Samantha is a director of Hume International and is responsible for overseeing the administrative and legal elements of the business.

Roy Thomas

Logistics and Operations Director

Roy has completed a diploma in Business Management and holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Information Technology Degree and has more than 10 years of diverse business experience.

He brings on board a diverse range of expertise, namely:

  • Sales and Marketing Management
  • Warehouse and Supply Chain Management
  • International Freight Forwarding Experience
  • Logistics Management

Freda Geldenhuys CA(SA)

Financial Director

Freda qualified as a Chartered Accountant in South Africa in 2012 and has a diverse level of business experience.

She completed her Bachelor Commerce (Rationum) at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in 2007 and then proceeded to complete her Honours in accounting in 2008. She then did her articles at Ernst and Young (Johannesburg) and completed her traineeship in 2011. In 2012 Freda did a short term secondment in San Francisco (USA). She then joined the Hume International team in July 2012.

She brings on board a diverse range of experience, inter alia, mainly in the financial services and control environment with expertise in:

  • Financial Analysis
  • Strategic analysis and business development
  • Financial control, structuring, and reporting
  • System and control design and implementation
  • Stock market analysis, equities trading and investing

Freda has vast experience with local and international companies, accounting standards and control environments. She has experience in the retail and corporate banking, communications, insurance, and constructions as well as international and offshore hedge funds.

Tarun Peedikayil

Commercial Director

Tarun has successfully gained knowledge of the import industry with regard to devising and using
profitable procurement and sourcing strategies after 9 years of dedicated service to Hume International.
This journey has provided him with the necessary skill set to identify profitable suppliers and to initiate
fruitful procurement partnerships.
